    There are great artists and riggers out there with very good quality that offer way less than 1k for either art or rig because they simply might not have a name. To me the people complaining look like they don't really want that but the fancier stuff just without the price tag. It's not easy to find good artists with affordable prices but we do exist. The ammount of times I get potential clients asking for a million things but at the same time aren't willing to pay the price (even if it's still pretty affordable when compared to +1k models!) is CRAZY and I'm starting to be able to identify them quicker each time. These days you can get a very good quality model for less than 600 bucks and I wouldn't call that low or bad quality at all, quality is oftentimes not so tied to price as people think, I see it everyday. Saying the standard is +2k sounds kinda crazy to me 😭 I think part of the problem also lies in people being unable to find the right artists for them due to social media exposure being really bad nowadays for smaller profesionals and accounts. Beyond that, I don't really know what else to say. If someone thinks a 300$ rig is either still too expensive or too bad quality I can't do much else. Affordable options without sacrificing quality do exist, hell my favourite model that I've done (as in I'm quite proud of the work) was below 250$. What else should I do? Free models??? Will people complain about those too??

    I was able to draw and rig the model for sol_naina, as I want to learn how to rig. But I have a bad memory and literally will have to re-watch a tutorial for each step of the way in order to complete a model. So my models would probably never have the big bells and whistles that people want. As such, I don't see myself as becoming a fast or even good rigger in the future. I honestly wouldn't feel good charging that much, if I ever open commissions. (Naina is my roommate, but she paid me for the model dw)

    While the pricing is definitely an issue for most people whats even worse is the massive amount of unprofessional artists trying to leech of the popularity of this hobby. If you pay big bucks for something then you aren't paying for just quality you are also paying for a timely and guaranteed delivery. There are so many horror stories of people paying for models and either the art or rigging gets stalled for 6 months due to an artist ghosting them. Those 6 months cost them money they could be earning, growth they could be having and it also affects other artists involved in the models creation if its an early part of the process thats stalled. Thankfully places like VGEN are starting to put customer protections in place but thats a tiny part of the market. As a vtuber you should make a company to legally represent you without having to dox yourself when interacting with artists, sponsors etc. Then you can set up contracts that protect you in case you get ghosted after paying compared to just having a loose agreement. Artists who are doing freelance work of any kind need to realize that its not a hobby anymore, you are working a job. Its very easy for up and coming artists to start taking commissions, take too many at once, get paid in advance, spend the money on rent etc and then sit there having to do a ton of work which they are not getting anymore money from. So pace yourself and focus on getting stuff done on time. Most of the high profile artists aren't where they are now solely because they are amazing at what they do but because they also always deliver on time so companies trust them to deliver the next time too.

    In an ideal, typical market, you'd have really expensive, high-quality products, and you'd have low-quality, cheap, budget products. And to some extent, Vtubing does have that. You have the highly-expensive, high-quality, very-complex models with waitlists, all the way down to FREE vtuber model creator programs. Some people are alright with using free, generic models that aren't really "them" just so they can get into vtubing asap, but I think for most people, they want that personalized aspect, even if the model is stiff. That, or they don't even know there are free models out there. The problem is that cheap products are a result of mass-production, but a vtuber model is inherently custom-made, and custom-made products are expensive. You can't mass-produce individuality, and if you tried to, you'd need an entire TEAM working on models to bring down the production time, but that would jack up the prices WAY more. I think the only way individual vtuber models will be mass-produce-able and cheaper will be when AI becomes able to design and rig models, which will be a devastating loss for artists and riggers. TL;DR Unsolvable problem. Vtuber models are unique and unique things are expensive.

  • @SiMeGamer

    What a bunch of crybabies. Hobbies are a luxury. You chose an expensive hobby. Imagine asking for Golf to he affordable and complaining it is inaccessible to poorer people. Wtf is this? If it's so expensive and you can't afford it, go learn to make it. Unlike most hobbies, this can cost you 0$. It will cost you time to learn but it will be free. Look at my hobby (which for now ove stopped due to space reateictions and lower salary). I collect manga because i hate reading it in non-physical form. Guess what. It's expensive. Should I go cry to Japanese publications and the shipping industry that they are making this hobby expensive? VTubing is a hobby. Treat it as such. Just like making RUclips videos shouldn't be a career path from the get go. Nobody owes to subscribe to you or like your content or donate to your Patreon. And the artists don't owe you a cheaper model. We live in the highest standard of living in human history and people here are crying about a moving anime avatar moving being too expensive. Get a fking grip. You know people made careers before VTubing existed, right? You can still stream even without any model. Just like some RUclipsrs and Streamers today rise up without fancy cameras and lighting. Do it if you enjoy it. Don't expect a career. Nobody owes you anything. Its fine to say you want cheaper options with less features. But dont cry like your career depends on it. Not to mention you can contact the people making the models and do a custom price not on their listing. I do this type of work for video games. It takes a ton of time to make a single high quality model - especially for non-humans. Should I cry abiut it taking a long time or should I embrace reality and even be grateful I can do such a cool job? Perspective, people. Look at human history. Your hobby is a god damn luxury that exists for only a few years. Nobody owes you anything.

    Reading the comments, I feel like a lot of the people commenting below are missing the point on why people are asking for budgeting options. In this economy, if the vtuber cant afford things in a hobby that has an extremely high risk of them taking a net loss, this will eventually start affecting the other artists who rely on those potential vtubers for work. The lack of empathy to understand this makes its pretty worrysome that people think its an issue of art being a luxury when this is the general barrier to entry for vtubing.

    • @DreamyAileen
      @DreamyAileen Месяц назад

      I don't understand the point you're trying to make here. Most hobbies _are_ a "net loss". That's kind of just how hobbies work. Any hobby with a high monetary barrier for entry just isn't ever going to be a very accessible hobby. There's no getting around that. You either figure something out or you find something else.

    • @whyr1s
      @whyr1s Месяц назад

      @DreamyAileen Let's be real. Most people are vtubing not because they're not doing this as a hobby but because they expect some form of monetary success. (Which is a perfectly fine thing to do, fyi) And even if that isn't the case for some people, it doesn't change the fact that it isn't an easy thing to expect consumers to casually drop several grands to get 1 model. This is because even if this is seen as just a hobby, most people will inevitably get discouraged from streaming one way or another or have regret spending so much on a model. Regardless, the model industry relies on new people obtaining a model or coming back for a new outfit. Otherwise, it will self cannibalize itself with rising prices. Larger model creators won't deal with this because they already work with vtubers who can easily afford it, but for everyone else who uses model commissions to get by, either they're going to lower their prices because they cant compete with the market or are going to have to rely on some different form of commissions to pay the bills.

    • @DreamyAileen
      @DreamyAileen Месяц назад

      @@whyr1s I'm still not entirely sure what you're getting that, none of what you said sounds like an actual problem to me. So model creators struggling to get commissions will have to lower their prices (which they can justify by simplifying the models, e.g. reducing toggles or physics complexity). Isn't that just basic economics? As for people going into VTubing with expectations of monetary success, sure it's "a perfectly fine thing to do", but it doesn't entitle them _to_ monetary success. Streaming, like any other audience-reliant hobby-turned-job business venture, will always have a risk of financial loss. The responsibility of bearing that potential loss lies solely on the VTuber themself, and commissioning a fancy several-thousand-dollar model when you're only just starting out comes with a very big potential loss. Why should the industry be expected to bend to the whims of irresponsible people?

    • @whyr1s
      @whyr1s Месяц назад

      @DreamyAileen The whole comment to begin with is about how people within the comment section do not have empathy for why they're stating their opinions in the youtube videos. No one is expecting every vtuber to succeed in streaming because content creation is a volatile field. Apparently, asking for empathy is too much because people reasonably question what's going on or the justifications people have to take to succeed as a vtuber. The industry doesn't have to bend over backwards for vtubers persay, but people should be a little bit more willing to see the other perspectives of people who are questioning why things *has* to be this way and how did standards get this way and how this can start a good conversation so people can reach even ground.

    I really do not understand why people do not seem to get that art is a luxury item. If you can not afford it, make it yourself. If you can not make it yourself, stop complaining and start practising. This whole argument that artists are too expensive is such a closeminded concept. They have a price, and if that price is too much to get smth "lower quality," and work yourself up. If you're in it nit because it's a hobby but because you want money. Well, sorry, but then it's maybe not for you.

  • @nyatske
    @nyatske Месяц назад

    That's a rough thing to talk about, as it's very understandable that most people can't afford 3-5 thousand dollars (especially in poorer countries). Personally I'm interested in the artistic element of the space, but also it's very understandable for people interested to have cheaper options that may fit in their monthly budget. From being in the digital painting space I see a lot of artists preferring to make simpler cheaper work, but here in a space that has a lot to do with hype in terms of fancy rigging expensive jobs tend to stand out for the commisioning and the artist rigging. It's something you need to find personal balance in, I think.

  • @trooperscientists2000

    Okay, but tbf.. hobbies in general can be quite expensive. I'd say that the barrier of entry is quite high for V-Tubing tho. I wanna compare this "hobby" to the hobby of being a "furry". Both are really niche and you want to be unique and have a decent model/suit. Because it is very expensive newcomers often have to pick up a seperate hobby like drawing, 3D sculpting, rigging/ crafting and sewing. I think the big problem (from what I'm reading here) is that any V-Tuber wants to be famous. They don't see it as a hobby, but a potential investment and a start into the entertainment industry. This industry has always been and will always be unfair and a lot of your success can be attributed to luck and external factors. Being entertaining is the biggest key, but things like a good model can definitely help you and give you a head start. Personally I think that it is fine to ask for a variety in models for various prices. From lower quality beginner models to high quality models that are used by professionals. Maybe saying that you offer a base model at price X and then additional features at cost Y and Z depending on how much work it is. What I don't think is fine tho is expecting to get all the features and quality for a lower price or demanding artists to lower prices. If you can't afford it you have to be willing to put the time and effort in to draw and rig yourself. It's all a trade off.

  • @jegantdragoch.7088

    there's a difference between features that needs to be activated with a toggle like an expression vs a design / complex rigging that would increase the price of a model. thing is that seeing people dont use toggles during streams is a waste - how much is that 15min of fame is worth when on the other hand - people can grow fast but struggle to hold the new followers. shouldnt pressure anyone that a expensive design is the key to success since the foundation of success is to be entertaining and consistency when streaming. its all still streaming in the end whether its IRL, vtubing or no cameras at all , no mics at all
